I create hyper-real abstractions that capture light as it bends and breaks through sculptural arrangements of glass, paper and plastic. These single-exposure non-representational photographs create the illusion of expansiveness and altered meaning in a 2D space. I explore the subtle tension between chaos and line that result in dynamic textured geometric patterns that are often punctuated with color.

Growing up in Southern California ingrained a sense of color, texture and rhythm that are the heart of my work. Bright colors reflect the ideal climate, textures pulled from the desert and water provide linear rhythms for my images. At a young age I connected to non-verbal activities because of my struggle with dyslexia. It has been a part of my life since early high school, driving me away from language and into the visual world. Building models, painting and photography were my escape from the academic world. The camera has been a consistent part of my visual vocabulary throughout my life. Years were spent in the traditional role behind the viewfinder capturing landscapes, sports and life events.  Abstract photography frees my hand to be in front of the camera creating the opportunity for subjective expression similar to painting, sculpting and ceramics.
